DIY Bean Bags
Beanbags for beanbag chairs or beanbag pillows are cool and superbly comfortable and making them is as easy as a breeze.
You can find materials at home by using your scrap fabrics or you can buy them at the local fabric stores for suitable materials. Making bean bags are as fun as playing with them and you can have your kids help you out.
Just follow these simple steps and you’ll have your beanbags in no time. Here are the things you need:
A Sewing Machine
3.5m minimum of fabric
3.5m of cheap fabric
A 50cm zip
Bean bag filling
Scissors
String
Pencil
First, you start by marking out your first panel on the back of the fabric. Iron your fabric, if necessary, and lay it down on a flat surface.
Measure 63cm at the bottom, two 113cm edges and a 29cm top end. Use your first panel as a template and draw four of these.
Draw two circles: A small one with a 29cm diameter for the top, and a big one with a 63cm diameter for the bottom.
Cut out all of the panels, cutting 1cm outside of all the lines for the seams.
Now, take the big circle and draw a line the length of your zip right in the middle. Pin the zip to the back of the fabric. Make sure the zipper is under the cut. Stitch the zip fabric in place, and then double stitch it.
Sew the long sides of the side panels together; making sure the stitching is on the inside. Double stitching them is good for extra strength. This will also lead you to an inside-out tube.
Take the inside-out tube, and pin the top panel in place. This will enable the fabric to face outwards. Stitch in place, and do exactly the same with the bottom panel.
Now turn the bag right-side out by pushing it through the zip.
Do everything again but with a cheap thin material and make an inner bag so that you don’t make a mess.
Insert the lining into the bag and leave the end hanging out. Funnel in the beans and zip up the bag. Now your beanbag is complete.
